• Hospital Volunteer Program at Mount Sinai West

Welcome and thank you for your interest in volunteering.

At Mount Sinai West, volunteers provide their time, passion, talents and dedication throughout the hospital and provide an extra dimension of care to our patients, their families, and visitors. They are an integral part of the hospital team!

We are looking for people who are committed and kind individuals who have a history of going above and beyond. We want proactive, responsible applicants who are seeking a unique opportunity that focuses on improving the patient experience. Whether you’re interested in greeting and directing visitors, bringing your certified therapy dog for regular visits, or assisting with various non-clinical tasks, Mount Sinai West Volunteer Services can match you with the right opportunity.

    Volunteer Programs:

Lobby Ambassadors may not be able to remove all the stress from the Hospital experience, but they can contribute in ways that help visitors, patients and their families feel more comfortable. By proactively addressing questions, concerns and requests, ambassadors complement the work of our staff and greet patients and visitors with a friendly smile and a great attitude. They help alleviate issues associated with directions, escort patients, and provide information to those looking for a little help. They are an important part of our team and are often the first face seen by guests who enter our facilities.

Rounding Volunteers help improve patient satisfaction by providing friendly visits, fulfilling small requests, and helping to orient new patients to the hospital and the unit. The main focus is to make sure the patients’ non-clinical needs are met.

Therapy Dog Program allows volunteers, whose dogs are qualified with an approved therapy dog organization, to engage with patients and staff throughout the hospital. Must be 18 years or older to participate and able to commit to at least two visits per month.

Junior Ambassadors are teens from the community who support the hospital’s mission to provide compassionate patient care. The program offers participants the opportunity to work together with hospital staff and become incredible hospital representatives. Opportunities include assisting in the lobby and clerical work.

Summer Junior Medical Program, or JuMP, gives students, 15 – 17, the opportunity to learn from health care professionals, from both clinical and nonclinical areas, about the day-to-day responsibilities of a hospital. It is an 8 week program and volunteers must commit to 100 hours.
