SportsMed_Thumbnail Mount Sinai West Sports Medicine experts offer comprehensive treatment of a wide variety of shoulder, elbow, hip and knee injuries. From strains and sprains, to tears in cartilage, ligaments, tendons and muscles, we provide high-quality orthopedic care to patients in the New York City area, and aim to return you to the activities you love, safely.

    Types of Sports Injuries

Sports injuries often occur in the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle, and fall into two basic categories — overuse injuries, caused by a series of small injuries to the same area of the body; and acute injuries, caused by sudden trauma.

Sports injuries can range from upper extremity injuries, such as shoulder separation or dislocation, rotator cuff tears and elbow tendonitis (tennis elbow), to lower extremity injuries, such as a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), damaged cartilage or meniscus, or a torn Achilles tendon. Prompt treatment can often prevent a minor injury from becoming worse or causing permanent damage.

For injuries that require surgery, our Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeons specialize in minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery to repair the damage, allowing for quicker recovery times.
