Sports injuries often occur in the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle, and fall into two basic categories — overuse injuries, caused by a series of small injuries to the same area of the body; and acute injuries, caused by sudden trauma.
Sports injuries can range from upper extremity injuries, such as shoulder separation or dislocation, rotator cuff tears and elbow tendonitis (tennis elbow), to lower extremity injuries, such as a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), damaged cartilage or meniscus, or a torn Achilles tendon. Prompt treatment can often prevent a minor injury from becoming worse or causing permanent damage.
For injuries that require surgery, our Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeons specialize in minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery to repair the damage, allowing for quicker recovery times.
The Mount Sinai West Sports Medicine experts specialize in the treatment of athletic and non-athletic injuries using the latest minimally invasive surgical techniques. Conditions treated include the following:
Mount Sinai West’s sports medicine experts are team doctors for the Fordham University and Manhattan College sports teams, a number of Catholic High School Athletic Association sports teams, and are consulting orthopedists for the New York City Ballet, and the American Ballet Theater.
